Nickelback might want to send U.S. president Donald Trump a “thank you” note.
The Canadian band’s 2005 hit “Photograph” got a big boost after a clip of it was used in a meme Trump tweeted on Oct. 2.
The meme was removed within 24 hours of the president tweeting it out to his 65 million followers due to a copyright claim, which made headlines.
According to Nielsen Music data reported by Billboard, all this attention resulted in a surge in streams and sales of “Photograph.”
The song had 772,000 on-demand audio and video streams on Oct. 2-3, up 38 per cent from the previous two days. Digital download sales of “Photograph” on Oct. 2-3 were up 569 per cent over the previous two days – even though the number was small.
