Nickelback recently released Hate to Love: Nickelback a feature-length documentary that delves into the band's massive following as well as the hate that came with it all.
CHOM 97 7 Montreal's Bilal Butt caught up with Nickelback's Ryan Peake to discuss how the project came about and what he hopes fans and haters will take away from the movie.
"We've been used as clickbait for years," Peake admits. "Maybe it's our turn to turn it around. [...] Our name has become something in the public lexicon that I'm not really stoked about."
When asked why Nickelback became a figurative punching bag for many music lovers, Peake adds, "there's theories as to why it happened. There's things we had to admit it to."
That said, Peake claims he doesn't want the documentary to become a sympathy party for the band.
"I don't want this to be an, 'oh, woe is me!' thing. It's a chance to kind of peel the onion."
