Nicki Minaj sent her fans into a frenzy Thursday when she tweeted that she is retiring from music.
“I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now," the rap star wrote. “To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.”
It was not immediately clear if Minaj was serious.
Early Friday morning, she tweeted: "I’m still right here. Still madly in love with you guys & you know that ... The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe."
Less than a month ago, the 36-year-old said on her radio show that she was set to marry Kenneth “Zoo” Petty in the next 80 days.
“We filed for the marriage license and we still had to pick it up and I was traveling, by the time I came back, we had to renew it again,” Minaj said. “From that time, you have 90 days to get married. That was about a week ago, so now I have about 80 days.”
She said the couple will wait a bit longer to throw a wedding fit for a queen.
“I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now,” she explained. “We’ll do the big wedding later.”
Minaj has released four albums since her 2010 debut with hits like "Anaconda," "Bang Bang" and "Starships."
She has been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards.
