Nicki Minaj did her part for higher education over the weekend, offering to pay for some fans’ college tuition and student loans.
The rap superstar tweeted about a contest to join her at the Billboard Music Awards and boasted that she has enough money to fly the winner in from anywhere in the world. This prompted a fan to tweet: “Well you wanna pay for my tuition?”
Minaj replied: “Show me straight A's that I can verify w/ur school and I'll pay it. Who wants to join THAT contest?!?! Dead serious. Shld I set it up?”
Fans then started sending their requests for financial aid — and Minaj accepted many of them!
“What about helping a fellow immigrant that wants to go to school,” tweeted one person. Minaj answered: “U want to go to college but can’t? How much do u need to get u in school? Is that the only thing stopping u?”
When another fan tweeted that $1,000 was all he needed for three summer classes, Minaj replied: “That’s it? I’ll send it tmrw. dm me ur bank info babe.”
She honoured similar requests for amounts ranging from $350 to $2,031.
Minaj even offered to pay $6,000 to a fan who claimed the money would cover “16 credit classes, room & board, meal plan, technology fee & books that I would need for the classes.”
Another fan is going to get enough to buy a camera needed to study A/V production.
Eventually, Minaj ended the giveaway. “It’s been fun,” she tweeted. Let me make those payments tmrw then see if I have any money left. I’ll do more in a month or 2.”
