Nine of the ten wrongful death lawsuits filed against Travis Scott and Live Nation over the fatal crowd surge at the 2021 Astroworld Music Festival have been settled.
The Associated Press reports that the settlements come just as the rapper (real name Jacques Bermon Webster II) and Live Nation, who promoted the event, were set to go to trial this week over the death of Madison Dubiski, a 23-year-old Houston fan who was killed on November 5, 2021 following a crowd crush during Scott's performance.
Terms of the settlements are said to be confidential. Due to a gag order in the case, attorneys for the plaintiffs declined to comment.
At a court hearing on Wednesday (May 8), Live Nation attorney Neal Manne told AP that only one wrongful death lawsuit was pending, but that the other nine have been settled.
The Dubiski family's lawyer Noah Wexler confirmed that his client's case “is resolved in its entirety.”
One wrongful death lawsuit remains pending, that filed by the family of the youngest victim, nine-year-old Ezra Blount. Attorneys are set to meet next week with State District Judge Kristen Hawkins to discuss when the case could go to trial.
Of the over 4,000 lawsuits filed after the concert, 2,400 injury cases remain pending, Manne said.
Last month, Judge Hawkins denied Scott’s motion to be dismissed from hundreds of lawsuits and ruled that Scott must face a jury trial in the case.
