Tomorrow (November 9) has been declared "Wu-Tang Clan Day" in the city of New York.
New York City mayor Eric Adams has announced that the legendary rap collective from the borough of Staten Island will be commemorated for the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), which was released on November 9, 1993.
To mark the occasion, the Empire State Building will be lit black and yellow, to honour the group's signature colours.
In addition, defacto leader and producer RZA, along with the rest of Wu-Tang, will be announcing a new partnership with Rock The Bells and SiriusXM. On November 29, a new weekly show called #WuWednesdays hosted by RZA will launch on LL COOL J’s Rock The Bells on SiriusXM channel 43.
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) will also be reissued by Legacy Recordings/Get On Down as a special edition 7-inch box set featuring a limited-edition LP and cassette, a 60-page liner notes book titled The Shaolinothology that includes interviews, rare photos, and album lyrics, and a pack of 30th Anniversary "36 Chambers Trading Cards".
Last night (November 7), RZA debuted The 36 Chambers 30th Anniversary Celebration, "a live orchestra experience" of Wu-Tang's seminal album at New York's Gramercy Theatre. There are still tickets available for the two remaining shows, which are happening tonight and tomorrow.
