Olivia Rodrigo on Wednesday added her voice to the chorus of opposition to the U.S. Supreme Court’s draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which has protected women’s rights since 1973.
During her Sour Tour stop in Washington, D.C., the 19-year-old singer told the crowd: “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to say how heartbroken I am over the Supreme Court’s potential decision.
“Our bodies should never be in the hands of politicians.”
To cheers, Rodrigo added: “I hope we can raise our voices to protect our right to have a safe abortion, which is a right that so many people before us have worked so hard to get.”
Other music stars have shared their views on the leaked draft of a decision by the court.
Among them was Halsey, who opined in a tweet: “The overturning of Roe V Wade will mark a catastrophic shift in our fundamental rights to bodily autonomy and reproductive health care. We are constituents and we have the right and responsibility to fight this.”
The singer called the ruling “a cruel attack on our fundamental right to choose if and when to have a child.”
