Fans have gone, well, guano crazy for Ozzy Osbourne’s bat.
On Sunday, the 70-year-old rocker marked the anniversary of the night he bit the head off a live bat by taking to Instagram to promote the sale of a plush bat – with detachable head, of course.
The 12” toy, which sells for $40 U.S. on Osbourne’s official site, quickly sold out. A new batch of bats (it’s called a colony - ed.) will ship in March.
“Today marks the 37th Anniversary since I bit a head off a f*cking bat!,” read the caption.
Osbourne was in Des Moines, Iowa on Jan. 20, 1982 on his Diary of a Madman Tour when a fan tossed the winged mammal on stage. The stunned bat was motionless so Osbourne, believing it was a toy, grabbed it and bit its head off.
“Immediately, though, something felt wrong. Very wrong,” the rock star recalled in his 2010 memoir I Am Ozzy. “For a start, my mouth was instantly full of this warm, gloopy liquid, with the worst aftertaste you could ever imagine. I could feel it staining my teeth and running down my chin. Then the head in my mouth twitched.
“Oh f**k me, I thought. I didn’t just go and eat a f**king bat, did I?”
Osbourne got rabies shots – and one of the best rock 'n' roll stories ever.
