Pop star P!NK knew that sharing a photo of her kids running through a Holocaust memorial would set off the parenting police.
She wasn’t wrong.
“You should know the memorial is meant to be a solemn place of reverence, not a playground,” one person commented. Another wrote: “I would definitely want two little s***s running around while I try to pay respects to my dead tortured family.”
P!NK posted the photo of Willow, 8, and Jameson, 2, at Berlin’s Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe on Instagram on Sunday. In the caption, she said: “The very person who constructed this believed in children being children, and to me this is a celebration of life after death. Please keep your hatred and judgment to yourselves.”
The pop star also pointed out that she and her children are Jewish. (P!NK was born Alecia Moore to Judith Kugel, a Jew of Lithuanian and German descent.)
Of course, not every one chose to go at P!NK. "The laughter of children is a celebration," commented one.
Peter Eisenman, who designed the memorial, told BBC News in 2017: "It's a meeting place, children run around... A memorial is an everyday occurrence, it is not sacred ground. My idea was to allow as many people of different generations, in their own ways, to deal or not to deal with being in that place, and if they want to lark around I think that's fine."
In April, P!NK vowed not to post photos of her children on social media due to the vitriol of strangers.
“I won’t share them anymore,” she said on an episode of Ellen. “I’m not posting pictures of them anymore.”
P!NK was reacting to comments about a photo that showed Jameson without a diaper. Many people weighed in about her decision to have her son circumcised. “There’s something seriously wrong with a lot of you out there,” the singer responded. “Going off about my baby’s penis? About circumcision??? Are you for real?”
