Listening to a preview of Pearl Jam’s new single is as easy as aiming your cell phone at the moon. Yes, you read that correctly.
Pointing your phone at the moon triggers animations on and around the moon as well as an early listen to “Superblood Wolfmoon,” a track is from Pearl Jam’s 11th studio album Gigaton, out March 27. (Of course, you don't really have to point it at the moon... or even go outside.)
The band partnered with Powster for the augmented-reality experience, which can be accessed here.
“We’re honoured to be working with Pearl Jam to bring their music to life through technology blended with the elements of nature that inspired their tone,” said Powster CEO Ste Thompson, in a release. “This activation displays their innovation and creative energy going into their new album.”
The augmented-reality preview of "Superblood Wolfmoon" will work until Feb. 19, a day after the single drops.
The Gigaton cover features a photo titled Ice Waterfall, which was snapped in Norway by Canadian filmmaker and marine biologist Paul Nicklen.
Pearl Jam will kick off the North American leg of its tour on March 18 at Toronto’s Scotiabank Centre and follow with shows in Ottawa on March 20, Quebec City on March 22, and Hamilton on March 24.
