Pink vows to kick off the Super Bowl as scheduled despite being tackled with the flu.

The 38-year-old mother of two took to Instagram late Friday to express how determined she is to perform the U.S. national anthem before Sunday's Super Bowl game in Minneapolis.

"I’ve been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come," she wrote. "And it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek."

Pink described the opportunity to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" as one of the biggest honours of her life – and she's not going to let illness keep her off the field.

"I promise I will do my best, as I always do," she vowed. "As far as the gremlins that got me into this mess, you can cough at me for the rest of your lives. If it’s a contest, babies, you win."
