Avicii ended his life by cutting himself with broken glass, according to a shocking report by TMZ early Tuesday.
The website cited sources “privy to specific information about Avicii’s death” on April 20 as saying the DJ and producer used a shard of glass from a wine bottle.
No official cause of death has been made by public but his family issued a statement last week that suggested he took his life.
"He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness,” it read. “He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace.”
The suggestion of suicide came after a tribute by Diplo on social media, in which he referred to Avicii's "demons" and wrote: "Maybe this wasn't the right place for you sometimes.”
The 28-year-old, whose real name was Tim Bergling, was found dead while on vacation in Oman. According to a separate report, he was staying at a farmhouse in the beach resort of Muscat Hills owned by the Sultan of Oman.
Officials have said no foul play is suspected.
Avicii is being remembered for his generosity, with multiple reports claiming he donated a significant chunk of his fortune to various charities.
