Post Malone says his collection of face tattoos masks the insecurities he has about the way he looks.
In an interview with GQ, the 24-year-old rap star described himself as “an ugly-ass motherf**ker.” Among the ink on his face are the words “always” and “tired” as well as “stay away.”
Malone explained: “It does maybe come from a place of insecurity, to where I don't like how I look, so I'm going to put something cool on there so I can look at myself and say, ‘You look cool, kid,’ and have a modicum of self-confidence, when it comes to my appearance.”
There could be another reason for covering his body in tattoos. “I’m f**king crazy,” he said. “And it has exacerbated over the past years.”
Asked if he is getting help, Malone responded: “I am, now – I’m trying. It’s difficult. Through my songs, I can talk about whatever I want. But sitting here, face-to-face, it’s difficult.”
Malone recalled crying himself to sleep while in middle school. “High school, the same thing,” he said. “I tried to drink some beers to get rid of that s**t, but it just never goes away.
“And I don't think that's anybody's fault; it has to do with something predisposed in you.”
