President Joe Biden will hand out National Medals of Arts to a group of artists and arts patrons today (October 21) including legendary rappers Queen Latifah and Missy Elliott.
The private ceremony will take place at the White House where the President will present the 2022 and 2023 National Medals of Arts in conjunction with the National Humanities Medals.
The National Medals of Arts are awarded by the President of the United States to "individuals or groups who are deserving of special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to the excellence, growth, support, and availability of the arts in the United States."
Other artists to receive the honour include filmmakers Spike Lee and Steven Spielberg, actresses Eva Longoria and Idina Menzel, documentarian Ken Burns, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
The 2021 recipients of the National Medals of Arts included singer-songwriters Bruce Springsteen, Gladys Knight and Jose Feliciano, actresses Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Mindy Kaling, and fashion designer Vera Wang.
