Latin pop star Prince Royce revealed last week that he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and urged people to wear masks and practice social distancing.
The 31-year-old singer, whose real name is Geoffrey Rojas, told The Associated Press he started to feel sick two weeks ago. He said he got tested after his temperature hit 38.3 degrees Celsius.
Royce said he had self-isolated in his Miami home but “went out to some restaurants because things opened up.” He insisted he took precautions like hand-washing and wearing a mask.
Now he wants others to protect themselves and others.
“It is so frustrating to see people in supermarkets without a mask. It is so frustrating to see people being irresponsible and not protecting others,” he said.
"Just because you're young doesn't mean it won't hit you. I hope my story can educate the youth … the people who are going to bars because they are open. Don't be selfish by making the same mistakes that I probably made.”
