British music magazine Q announced Monday its next issue will be its last.
Editor Ted Kessler called the move “an eventuality that nobody could’ve predicted as recently as March.”
In his final editor’s note, Kessler said the COVID-19 pandemic was the last straw for a publication that survived 34 years but fought to “keep our head above water in an extremely challenging print market.”
Q, a play on “cue,” was founded in 1986 by broadcaster Mark Ellen and David Hepworth. The monthly was sold to Germany’s Bauer Media Group in 2008.
The final issue, dated September 2020, goes on sale July 28.
Paul McCartney graced the cover of the very first issue of Q . The last to be featured solo on the cover of Q was Tame Impala for the May 2020 issue.
