Snoop Dogg is among those paying tribute on social media to rapper Bad Azz, who has died at 43.
“Damn. R.I.P. To my young D.P.G.L.L.G.L.B.C. Crew original,” Dogg shared on Instagram. “Gone 2 soon.”
Bad Azz, whose real name is Jamarr Stamps, reportedly died while in custody at the Southwest Detention Center in Riverside, California. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
Stamps, who was arrested on a domestic violence charge on Nov. 8, was scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 13.
“A legendary freestyler and unsung G-Funk linchpin,” tweeted Biz Markie, “who dropped a series of classic lowriding anthems that made every summer BBQ and blunt cruise that much funkier.”
In addition to his work with Snoop Dogg, Bad Azz had a verse on Tupac Shakur’s 1996 track “Krazy” and collaborated with rappers like Ice Cube. He released five studio albums between 1998 and 2018.
