Grammy-nominated rapper Da Brat took to social media on Thursday to confirm that she is in a relationship with a woman.
“I’ve always been a kind of private person until I met my heart’s match who handles some things differently than I do,” she wrote in the caption to a video showing off a white Bentley she received as an early birthday gift from Jesseca Dupart.
Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris, thanked Dupart “for far more than this incredible birthday gift. I have never experienced this feeling. It’s so overwhelming that often I find myself in a daze hoping to never get pinched to see if it’s real so I can live in this dream forever.”
On her Instagram, Dupart referred to Da Brat as “My better half , my forever , my twin flame.” She added: “I’ve never been SOOOO happy and honestly think that it’s not only because of our connection but also because we really been to ourselves. But then all these videos keep popping up like we hiding. But WE BE IN PUBLIC.”
Da Brat, 45, received Grammy nominations in 1998 and 2004. Her hits include “Loverboy,” “Funkdafied” and “I Think They Like Me.” She also had roles in the Toronto-shot Mariah Carey flick Glitter and on TV shows like Empire.
