Up-and-coming rapper Houdini was gunned down Tuesday afternoon in Toronto in what police are calling a targeted attack.
Meek Mill and Tory Lanez are among those paying tribute to the 21-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dimarjio Jenkins.
“Houdini had unlimited potential as an artist and we are incredibly saddened that his life was cut short," said Steve Kane, president of Warner Music Canada, in a statement. “Our thoughts are with his family during this unimaginable time. We urge our elected officials to help address the root causes of gun violence and put an end to these tragedies.”
Toronto Police said someone exited a blue vehicle and chased Jenkins and a 15-year-old boy while shooting at them. A woman, believed to be an innocent bystander, was wounded. A gun was recovered at the scene and investigators have a lot of video surveillance to review.
So far, no arrests have been made.
Jenkins, who released the mixtape underGROUND in March, grew up in Toronto but recently moved to Brampton, Ont. He is the third rapper to be fatally shot in Toronto since June 2018.
