A rapper who was once signed to Drake’s OVO Sound label came out as gay on Twitter last week.
Makonnen Sheran, best known as iLoveMakonnen, tweeted: “As a fashion icon, I can’t tell u about everybody else’s closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it’s time I’ve come out.
“And since y’all love breaking news, here’s some old news to break, I’m gay.”

The 27-year-old Atlanta native had a Top 20 hit, “Tuesday,” after the track was remixed by Drake.
iLoveMakonnen was then signed to OVO Sound and he released two albums. Last April, he announced that he was no longer with Drake’s label.
On Sunday, iLoveMakonnen took to Twitter to thank fans "for your Real Love and continued support."
Only two days before iLoveMakonnen came out, Chance The Rapper’s brother and collaborator Taylor Bennett announced on Twitter that he identifies as bisexual.
"Moving into next year I'd like to be more open about myself to help others that struggle with the same issues," Bennett, 21, tweeted.
"Growing up I've always felt indifferent about my sexuality & being attracted 2 one sex & today I would like to openly come out to my fans. I do recognize myself as a bisexual male & do & have always openly supported the gay community & will keep doing so in 2017.”
Chance later tweeted his support for his brother.
“Love this man right here, through any and all,” he shared. “He has grown into a great man. He's got God and me behind him, he cannot fail he cannot fall.”
The rap and hip-hop scene has traditionally not been very welcoming to gay men. (In the 2012 hit song "Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Macklemore raps: "If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me.")
Last year, in the wake of the mass shooting at an Orlando gay nightclub, Kid Cudi boldly tweeted: "The Hip Hop community is the least outspoken about gay rights and Ima go out of my way to change that.
"If you are an insecure homophobe and have a issue with gays and equality, unfollow me now."
