Rapper XXXTentacion was shot dead Monday afternoon in South Florida. He was 20.
The “Look at Me!” rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was in a black BMW i8 outside a motorcycle shop in Deerfield Beach when two black males approached and at least one of them opened fire.
Police said a Louis Vuitton bag was stolen from the vehicle.
“Rest in peace,” tweeted Kanye West. “I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here. thank you for existing.”
Diplo shared a photo of him and XXXTentacion with the caption: “Thanks for inspiring me.”
J. Cole tweeted: “This got me f**ked up. RIP X. Enormous talent and limitless potential and a strong desire to be a better person. God bless his family, friends and fans.”
XXXTentacion had faced charges for gun possession, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and witness tampering. He also had several altercations with fans at his concerts.
The rapper released two studio albums, including this year’s ?.
He often cited Tupac Shakur, who died in 1996, as an influence. Like XXXTentacion, Shakur was shot inside a black BMW.
