Rihanna has given an update on her forthcoming album, which fans are calling R9.
Speaking with stylist Mel Ottenberg in a piece for Interview titled "Rihanna Is Ready To Confess," the Grammy winner says is currently working on new ideas, but its a more visual process at the moment.
“I don’t have the songs for them yet, but maybe that’s the key, this time,” Rihanna says. “Maybe the visual ideas are leading me to the songs that I need to make.”
Back in February, her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky told a fan on the streets of Paris that Rihanna is "working on it," however, judging by her words it appears to be a slow-going process.
“Random ideas, quirky ideas, things that have nothing to do with me at all,” she teases. “I have a lot of visual ideas. It’s weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I’m having all of these visuals.”
The singer's much-anticipated, long-awaited follow-up to 2016's Anti has been put on the backburner as she builds a family with A$AP Rocky and continues to expand her Fenty Beauty empire.
Previously she has teased that the album could be reggae-inspired as a tribute to her tropical heritage, and told the Associated Press that “You’re not going to expect what you hear. Just put that in your mind."
