Rihanna’s youth education initiative Clara Lionel Foundation has partnered with bike-sharing group Ofo to provide bikes and scholarships to young girls in Malawi.
“I’m so happy about the Clara Lionel Foundation’s new partnership with Ofo because it will help so many young people around the world receive a quality education,” the singer said, in a statement, “and also help the young girls of Malawi get to school safely, cutting down those very long walks they make to and from school all alone.”
In Malawi, 4.6 million young people attend primary school but less than 10 per cent of them will complete secondary school — and very few are female.
The program, called 1 KM Action, will also run in China, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica and in Rihanna’s native Barbados.
