Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson playing on a track by former Triumph frontman Rik Emmett?
“That's like George Harrison playing on a Rolling Stones track,” gushed Murray C in the comments section of the lyric video for the song “Human Race” on YouTube.
Emmett and his new band RESolution9 — guitarist Dave Dunlop, drummer Paul Delong and bassist Steve Skingley — will release the 11-song album RES 9 on Nov. 11.
In addition to Lifeson’s contribution to “Human Race” and “End of the Line,” the album features Dream Theater singer James LaBrie on “I Sing” (and “End of the Line”) and former Triumph musicians Gil Moore and Mike Levine on “Grand Parade.”
The album was primarily recorded at the famed MetalWorks Studios near Toronto — where Emmett and Lifeson felt right at home (both Triumph and Rush recorded albums there).
Triumph was one of the most successful Canadian bands in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Emmett, now 63, left in 1988 and released solo material as well as jazz/flamenco music as half of Strung-Out Troubadours.
