Ringo Starr has settled his claim against the makers of the Ring O male sex aid.
The former Beatles drummer challenged the trademark in 2019, claiming it was “identical in appearance, sound, connotation and pronunciation” to his trademarked name. His lawyers argued: “Consumers will likely believe that [Starr's] newest venture is sex toys – and this is an association that [he] does not want."
But, according to the settlement filed last month, the 80-year-old rock icon – whose real name is Richard Starkey – has withdrawn his complaint after reaching a settlement with Pacific Holdings and Momentum Management, the company behind the Ring O.
It has agreed to “avoid any activity likely to lead to confusion” and not to “degrade, tarnish or deprecate or disparage” Starr’s name or image. The company agreed to keep a space between the “Ring” and “O.”
The Ring O is part of the Screaming O line of products and promises “firmer and harder erections” and to help control premature ejaculation.
