Ringo Starr has revealed that he, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison once discussed whether they should come together for a reunion concert.
Starr told The Mirror that promoter Bill Sargent offered the Beatles a whopping $84.6 million to perform in 1975 – five years after the band broke up – but also planned to showcase a man wrestling an 18-foot Great White Shark.
“We called each other to see what we think,” he recalled. “We decided not to do it because the opening act was a guy biting a shark. So we thought no.”
Starr, who turns 80 on Tuesday, said he believes the Beatles would have reunited at some point.
“If John and George had not died there was surely a possibility of that,” he said. “Paul and I are still on the road. John would have still been on the road. I don’t know about George. We’d still be doing what we love to do.”
Lennon was shot to death in 1980 and Harrison died of cancer in 2001.
