Rod Stewart slammed Elton John this week for announcing that he’s doing a farewell tour.
“I’ve never spoken about retirement and if I do retire, I won’t make an announcement, I’ll just fade away,” Stewart said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
“I don’t think this big deal, ‘I’m going to retire…’ it so stinks of selling tickets.”
John announced in January that his Farewell, Yellow Brick Road tour, which will stretch over three years, will be his last. He explained: ”I thought the time was right to say hello to all my fans around the road, and then goodbye.”
John’s tour includes shows in Toronto, Ottawa and Quebec City in late September and in Montreal on Oct. 4.
Stewart, 73, said he reached out to John when he heard the news. “I did email [John] and said, ‘What, again dear?’ and I didn’t hear anything back.”
He called the idea of a farewell tour “dishonest” and added: “It’s not rock and roll.”
