Rod Stewart and his son Sean are scheduled to be arraigned in a Florida courtroom next month in connection with an alleged assault on an employee of a Palm Beach resort on New Year’s Eve.
The 74-year-old singer and his 39-year-old son are facing a charge of simple battery, according to a Palm Beach police report.
Breakers hotel security guard Jessie Dixon told police he saw a commotion near the check-in table of a children’s event at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. When he went to investigate, Sean allegedly shoved him backwards and Rod allegedly punched Dixon on the left side of his body.
Two hotel employees told police they witnessed the altercation, which was also captured on surveillance video.
According to a police report, both Rod and Sean admitted they were upset that the children in their group were denied entry to the event and lost their cool when Dixon became argumentative. The Stewart men apologized for their behaviour, officers noted.
Rod, who owns a mansion on South Ocean Blvd. in Palm Beach, and Sean are due to appear in court on Feb. 5.
Sean was sentenced to three months in jail in 2002 for assaulting a man outside a restaurant in Los Angeles.
