Roddy Ricch and Chris Brown were big winners at Sunday’s BET Awards.
Ricch was named Best New Artist and his Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial won Album of the Year. Brown was declared Best Male R&B/Pop Star and his track “No Guidance” ft. Drake won Best Collaboration.
The award for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist went to Lizzo and Best Group was Migos.
Megan Thee Stallion, who had five nominations, won two – Best Female Hip Hop Artist and the Viewer’s Choice Award for “Hot Girl Summer” ft. Nicki Minaj.
“Higher” by DJ Khaled ft. Nipsey Hussle & John Legend earned Video of the Year and Teyana "Spike Tee" Taylor was named Video Director of the Year.
Drake had a leading six nominations for this year’s BET Awards, including Best Male Hip Hop Artist (which went to DaBaby). Also representing Canada was The Weeknd, who was vying for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Director X, nominated for Video Director of the Year.
Burna Boy from Nigeria won Best International Act.
Beyoncé was honoured with the humanitarian award in recognition of her charitable works through her BeyGOOD Foundation. She used her acceptance speech to encourage Americans to vote in November “like our life depends on it.”
Beyoncé also won the BET HER award for “Brown Skin” ft. daughter Blue Ivy as well as WizKid & Saint Jhn.
