The only Canadian stop on the Rolling Stones’ No Filter tour has been scrapped – as well as all 14 U.S. dates – so that frontman Mick Jagger can receive medical treatment.
“I’m so sorry to all our fans … with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this,” Jagger tweeted Saturday.
“I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”
The Stones were scheduled to kick off the North American leg of the tour in Miami on April 20 and wrap it up with a huge outdoor show at the Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, north of Toronto, on June 29.
Jagger, who turns 76 in July, tweeted last month that he was “looking forward to heading back to Canada” and promised the concert “will be a good one!”
The No Filter tour started in September 2017 in Germany.
A statement from the legendary rock band did not disclose the medical treatment Jagger requires but said he is “expected to make a completely recovery.” The concert promoter urged fans to hold on to tickets, which will be honoured for the rescheduled shows.
The June 29th concert would have been the Stones’ 19th official tour show in the Toronto area in 54 years. They last performed in Toronto in 2013.
Over the years, the Stones have set up shop in Toronto to rehearse for world tours: In 1989 for Steel Wheels, 1994 for Voodoo Lounge, 1997 for Bridges to Babylon, 2002 for Licks, and 2005 for A Bigger Bang.
