Sabrina Carpenter has been forced to defend her performances on the Short n' Sweet Tour, after being criticized for allegedly lip-syncing and making the show too damn sexy.
A post on TikTok called out Carpenter for accusing her of not singing live during her concerts, asking "Does she ever sing live?" Another user chimed in, writing, “Hate to say it but 30% lip singing (sic) 30% backing track 40% singing.” Well, Sabrina wasn't gonna let this go.
The 25-year-old star came to her own defence by responding, “i sing live every show 100% would you like to speak to my audio engineers.”
That's a pretty solid clapback!
But it's not just her singing that has been criticized. Complaints have been made about the former Disney star's overtly sexual performances, which made headlines following her much-talked-about appearance at the MTV VMAs last month.
Carpenter addressed the backlash in a new interview with Time Magazine, which just included her on its TIME100 Next list for "shaping the future and defining the next generation of leadership."
"You'll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing," Carpenter tells Time. And to that I just say, don't come to the show and that’s OK. It's unfortunate that it's ever been something to criticize, because truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it's nothing. If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that's what you’ve got to do.”
Just last week, Sabrina Carpenter performed a sold-out show in Toronto at Scotiabank Arena. iHeartRadio Canada was there, and posted about all of the highlights, including her reflecting on the time she briefly lived in Toronto. Check it out here.
