Sarah McLachlan says she is working on new music that will be part of her summer tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her seminal album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, the Grammy winner revealed that she decided to shelve an album full of "pernicious breakup" songs a few years ago because she felt nobody would want to hear them.
"What do I want to talk about?" she told The Times. "I'm just another wealthy, middle-aged white woman."
The BC native hasn't released any new music since 2014's Shine On, but says working with producer Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers, Aimee Mann) has reignited her creative spark.
“I’m so energized by music, now that I’m living and breathing it every moment,” she said. “It’s a very different feeling.”
Last year, McLachlan confirmed to USA Today that she would be playing some of her new songs along with some of her biggest hits during her Fumbling Towards Ecstasy tour, which she kicked off in Vancouver last week.
"I'm in the process of writing. I could not tell you when a new record is coming, but there will be some new songs played on the tour," she said.
McLachlan will play two more Canadian shows this summer in Toronto, ON and Laval, QC before she heads back to close out the tour in November. See all the remaining Canadian dates below.
In the midst of all the touring, McLachlan will also be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame at Massey Hall in Toronto, ON on September 28.
