Sarah McLachlan will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at this year’s Juno Awards.
Calling the Halifax-born singer “one of Canada’s most celebrated and treasured artists,” the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) said Tuesday that McLachlan will be honoured at the April 2 event in Ottawa.
“I’m so honoured,” McLachlan, who now lives in B.C., said in a release. “This comes as a complete sweet surprise as I still feel like I’m just getting started.”
Allan Reid, president and CEO of CARAS and the Juno Awards, said: “From the moment we first heard her sing, nearly 30 years ago, we were captivated by the beauty of her voice and words. She is a unique artist who is respected the world over, and she continues to inspire a new generation of artists.
“Sarah is a trailblazer for women in this industry, not only because of her music, but also because of her philanthropic endeavours and her belief in music education.”
McLachlan, 49, has racked up 10 Junos and three Grammy awards during her career. She has released nine studio albums.
Previous inductees to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame include Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain.
The Juno Awards air on CTV on April 2.
