Scientists at the University of Edinburgh have named a prehistoric crocodile after late heavy metal legend Lemmy Kilmister.

London’s Natural History Museum said the fossil of “one of the nastiest sea creatures to have ever inhabited the earth” will be known as “Lemmysuchus obtusidens.”

The fossil, which was unearthed in England in 1909 and meaures nearly 6 metres, is on display at the museum.

Scientists believe Lemmysuchus swam around nearly 145 million years ago. He had large teeth that were ideal for crushing bones and turtle shells.

Curator Lorna Steel said in a statement the museum thinks the Motörhead frontman, who died in 2015, “would have raised a glass to Lemmysuchus.”
