Selena Gomez is going after several Chinese and American software companies and distributors for allegedly using her image in a mobile game.
In a lawsuit filed April 14 in Los Angeles, the pop star claims her likeness appears in Clothes Forever - Styling Game, a mobile game where users can be celebrity stylists. She is seeking at least $10 million U.S. in damages.
Gomez alleges the companies behind the game have profited from her popularity and are leading consumers to believe she endorsed the game.
In the App Store, the game is promoted with avatars that are clearly meant to represent pop stars like Gomez, Taylor Swift and Rihanna as well as Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Gigi Hadid. One illustration depicts Gomez with former boyfriend The Weeknd as well as David Beckham and wife Victoria Beckham.
“This is an egregious violation of Selena's rights, which we will litigate vigorously to vindicate,” her attorney Alex Weingarten said, in a statement.
Clothes Forever - Styling Game, which was launched in 2017, has a 3.5-star rating.
