When Selena Gomez's new single, "Bad Liar," drops on Thursday (May 18), listeners might recognize that the bass line is similar to a classic from the '70s: Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer."
After releasing a snippet of the cut on Tuesday, Gomez seemingly confirmed that the song features a sample of the 1977 hit, which the rock band recorded for their debut album, Talking Heads: 77. It's also included on The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list.
Instagram's most followed user indicated the sample with just one simple emoji when she responded to a fan account, which shared a video of Gomez talking about the Talking Heads track back in 2014. In the clip, the 24-year-old appears stunned when she walks out onto a balcony. "Miami playing Talking Heads ... That seems to be fate," she says.
In recent days, Gomez also teased lyrics from the track on a mirror in red lipstick, making the inspiration for the cut that much more interesting to learn about. "Bad Liar" drops on Thursday.
