Shaggy has revealed he turned down an opportunity to be featured on Rihanna’s highly anticipated new studio album – because he didn’t want to audition.

Mr. Boombastic, whose debut album came out when Rihanna was only four years old, reportedly told Britain’s Daily Star: “They approached me. There’s a lot of great people involved but for me, I didn’t need to audition to be on the record, I’ll leave that to younger guys. But from what I hear it should be good.”

Shaggy’s hits include “Oh Carolina,” “It Wasn’t Me” and “Angel.”

He said he welcomes Rihanna’s rumoured focus on dancehall for her next album. “Dancehall is in a good place but we need as many people to do this art form as possible,” explained Shaggy. “When it crosses over and becomes popular with artists from other genres and other cultures, that can only be good.”
