A song from 2018’s A Star Is Born is No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 – exactly 42 years to the day after a song from 1976’s A Star Is Born went to No. 1.
“Shallow,” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, hit the top spot on the chart thanks to the pair's emotional performance at the Oscars, where it was named Best Original Song.
On March 5, 1977, “Evergreen” by Barbra Streisand started a three-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard 100. The song came from the third version of A Star Is Born, in which Streisand starred opposite Kris Kristofferson.
Just like “Shallow,” “Evergreen” won the Oscar for Best Original Song as well as a Golden Globe and a Grammy.
“Evergreen” was the second No. 1 for Streisand, who co-wrote the song with Paul Williams. “Shallow” is the fourth No. 1 for Gaga, who penned it with Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt and Anthony Rossomando.
Streisand was a month shy of her 35th birthday when her A Star Is Born track topped the chart; Gaga is three weeks shy of her 33rd birthday.
