After waiting 15 years to release a new album, Shania Twain is still the one.
The Canadian singer’s fifth studio album Now tops the Billboard 200 chart with sales of more than 137,000 in its first week — beating new releases from young artists like Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.
The album, which includes the single “Life’s About to Get Good,” is Twain’s first since 2002’s Up! and her first since the end of her marriage to songwriter/producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange.
Twain kept fans happy with a greatest hits album in 2004 and a live album in 2015.
Now is only the second country album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this year, behind Thomas Rhett’s Life Changes, and the first by a female country artist since Miranda Lambert’s Platinum topped the chart in 2014.
Twain’s album sales got a boost from a bundle offer through her upcoming tour.
In second place on the Billboard 200 is Tom Petty’s 1993 Greatest Hits album. The singer died a week earlier.
Lovato’s Tell Me You Love Me debuted at No. 3 and Cyrus’ Younger bowed at No. 5.
The Bigger Artist, by rapper A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, is at No. 4.
