Shania Twain says she is on Team Taylor.
In an interview with USA Today, the Canadian pop-country superstar offered her take on the public feud between Taylor Swift and her former label over control of her early songs.
“I don't know a lot about the details of that, but I'm a big supporter of Taylor,” said Twain. “She's just incredibly brilliant. I haven't had a chance to talk to her about it and I don't really know where everybody is coming from, but I'll always support the artist and their access to their own music.
“It seems a bit ridiculous to not have that.”
Swift slammed Big Machine Label Group (BMLG) last week for reportedly blocking her from performing a medley of her hits at this Sunday’s American Music Awards, where she is being honoured as Artist of the Decade. (BMLG denied Swift’s claim.)
Twain is also scheduled to perform on the AMAs. She will do a medley of eight songs, starting with a mashup of current hits by other artists.
“I'm going to do that whole section alone, just me, my guitar and a microphone,” she said. “Then I'm going to break into a few of my hits that everybody knows and can sing along with.”
