Sharon Stone is suing rapper Chanel West Coast for allegedly exploiting her “extraordinary level of popularity and fame.”
In a lawsuit filed Monday, Stone calls Chanel West Coast (aka Chelsea Dudley) “an aspiring rap artist who has desperately sought to garner credibility and stature in the hip-hop community … by invoking and trading on the celebrity status and fame of others.”
At issue is the 2018 track “Sharon Stoned,” which the lawsuit claims “gratutiously and repeatedly uses the name ‘Sharon Stone’ in its lyrics.”
A video for the song, which premiered earlier this year, includes parodies of Stone’s scenes from films like Casino and Basic Instinct. The latter’s interrogation scene, according to the lawsuit, “is one of the most iconic performances in contemporary film” and “inextricably associated with Sharon Stone.”
The lawsuit claims the video is “purposefully designed and shot to evoke Sharon Stone’s likeness, image, identity, and persona associated with her iconic movie roles.”
Stone is seeking profits from the song, punitive damages and a court injunction barring the rapper from using her name or image.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and there has been no public response from Dudley.
