Shawn Mendes wants fans to know he’s doing just fine.
The Canadian singer took to Twitter late Tuesday to deny allegations he is being abused or pushed to his limits by his record company and Illuminate Tour promoter.
Mendes retweeted a message shared on fan account @mendescrowds that accused tour promoter AEG Live of being “abusive” towards artists and treating them “as work horses and cash cows.”
The message, which was deleted overnight, alleged: “If they’re too sick to perform they pump them with steroids to get them on stage, which Shawn as even acknowledged they’ve done with him.
“It makes them restless. It makes them lose their damn mind for close to 72 hours. But it gets their artists on stage so who cares.”
The bizarre missive said Mendes is “a product they’re selling and they do not care about his health, his physical or his mental well being.”
In response, Mendes tweeted: “This is untrue. Nothing like this is happening. I am in control of my career and life and how much i work is entirely up to me.
“And i love what i do so much, when i need a break i promise ill take one. Love you guys thank you for caring x”
@mendescrowds deleted the tweet “after it was confirmed to be a fake rumor” and apologized. “Sorry for spreading the false information, I'm very glad that none of that was true & that ur in ur own control @shawnmendes.”
Mendes, who turns 19 next week, brings his Illuminate Tour to Toronto on Aug. 11 and 12 followed by a Montreal show on Aug. 14.
The singer posted a teaser on Tuesday for his new fragrance, Shawn Signature, and revealed that Illuminate has been certififed platinum in the U.S. for sales of 1 million.
