Shawn Mendes on Sunday described performing in his hometown as “breathtaking” and “moving.”
The 21-year-old singer packed the Rogers Centre on Friday night for the final show – and his first ever in a stadium – on the North American leg of a world tour that kicked off in March.
“It’s taken me 24 hours be able to wrap my head around how breathtaking playing in Toronto was,” Mendes tweeted. “I’ve never experienced something so moving in my entire life.”
It’s taken me 24 hours be able to wrap my head around how breathtaking playing in Toronto was...I’ve never experienced something so moving in my entire life ❤️ 76 shows done & I just want to say thank you with all of my heart to every single one of you. Mendes finished a 76-show run by performing 19 of his songs, one collaboration, a four-song medley, and covers of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and Coldplay’s “Fix You.”
The highlight for many was the not-so-surprise appearance of Camila Cabello, who joined Mendes to perform their hit “Señorita.” Fans went wild when the pair ended the song with a kiss.

Love was also in the air when Mendes stopped the show so his personal trainer Josh Adamson could propose to his girlfriend. (She said “yes.”)
Several times during the concert, Mendes was visibly emotional. “This right now, this is not just mine. This stadium full of people is just as much yours to be proud of as it is mine,” he told the crowd. “I want everybody in this room to look around and be proud of this because this is special and I’m not doing this alone, I’m doing this with all of you.”
Mendes also told fans: “I just want to take a moment to say, with all of my heart, to every single person in this room, thank you so much for coming out.”
He echoed the emotion Sunday afternoon on Instagram. "I want you all to feel so proud of this tour... this is just as much yours as it is mine so look around and see what you’ve done! I truly feel so connected with you guys when I’m on stage, it’s my favourite thing in the world and we get to feel magic every single night.
“I just want to say thank you with all of my heart to every single one of you. I love you the most."
Friday’s show took place only blocks from Mendes’ downtown condo and about 40 kilometres from the Pickering, Ont. home where he grew up.
Fans who weren’t able to get tickets need not worry – the show was filmed for an upcoming concert film.
Mendes will resume his tour with a Sept. 25 show in Seoul, South Korea and end it on Dec. 21 with the last of three shows in Mexico City.
