“Monster,” a song combining the voices of Canada’s Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber, debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The second single from Mendes’ forthcoming album Wonder (out Friday) was released on Nov. 20 and promoted on both singers’ social media (Bieber has 113.2 million Twitter followers and Mendes has 26 million).
The Hot 100 represents U.S. sales, streams and radio airplay. The Dec. 5th chart was published Tuesday.
According to Billboard, “Monster” is Mendes’ sixth Top 10 hit and Bieber’s 21st.
The song placed below Bieber’s “Holy” ft. Chance The Rapper, which is No. 6 after 10 weeks on the chart, and by “Laugh Now Cry Later” by fellow Canadian Drake ft. Lil Durk at No. 7. Right behind “Monster” is The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” which is spending a record 41st week in the Top 10.
The week’s big winner was BTS, which earned the top spot with “Life Goes On” – the first No. 1 performed predominantly in Korean in the chart’s history – and has “Dynamite” at No. 3 after 14 weeks.
"Monster" debuted on the UK singles chart at No. 9 but, not surprisingly, fared better here at home – it debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian Hot 100.
"Wonder," the title track from Mendes’ new album, is currently No. 57 on the Hot 100 after eight weeks. The song has dropped steadily since it debuted at No. 18.
