Shawn Mendes leads the way going into this year’s iHeartRadio MMVAs, it was announced Wednesday morning.
The 19-year-old singer scored eight nominations, including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year. He has collected four iHeartRadio MMVAs, from 14 previous nominations, since 2015.
Mendes is followed by fellow Toronto star Drake, who earned seven nominations. He has 16 previous iHeartRadio MMVAs wins.
Alessia Cara each nabbed five noms, while Ed Sheeran got four and Halsey and Marshmello earned three each.

“The 2018 IHEARTRADIO MMVA nominees represent incredible talent from across all genres of music,” said Nanci MacLean, vice-president, Bell Media Studios, in a release. “We’re aiming the spotlight on our biggest Canadian stars and trailblazing international acts.
“It’s going to be a massive party – the largest block party in the country!”

The show will be hosted by Awkwafina and will feature performances by Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor, 5 Seconds of Summer, Alessia Cara, Kris Wu, Halsey, and Marshmello ft. Anne-Marie.
Celebrity presenters include Derek Hough, Jenni “JWOWW” Farley, Tyra Banks, Rachel Bilson, Star Trek Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green, and Prince Michael Jackson. More will be announced soon.
The iHeartRadio MMVAs will be handed out in Toronto on Aug. 26 and will be simulcast on CTV, MTV and Much with livestreams on CTV.ca, CTV GO, and much.com, as well as on the iHeartRadio app and right here at iHeartRadio.ca. It will also be broadcast on Virgin radio stations across Canada.
