Live from New York... it's Shawn Mendes!
Only days after an illness forced him to cancel a performance in California, Mendes gave it everything he’s got on Saturday Night Live.
The 18-year-old Canadian singer belted out his singles “Mercy” and “Treat You Better” on the Dec. 3rd episode of SNL, which was hosted by Emma Stone.
“Never been so emotionally consumed in a song in my life,” Mendes tweeted after the show. “Thank you @nbcsnl . Thank you guys for getting me here.”
It was the first time Mendes has performed on SNL. He is also the ninth solo male Canadian artist to be an SNL musical guest (some, like Justin Bieber and Neil Young, have appeared more than once).
Two days earlier, Mendes pulled out of Jingle Ball in San Jose because he was “sick and doctors have told me I am unable to travel or perform.”
On Twitter, he told fans: "I am gutted and so sorry, and I will make it up to you."
