Shawn Mendes tops the list of Canadian artists nominated for the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards.
The Ontario singer is the only Canadian in the Best Artist and Best Pop categories. In the latter, he’s the only male — up against Camila Cabello, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift.
Mendes’ hit “Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” is nominated for Best Song against “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber.
Mendes and Bieber are also competing in the Biggest Fans category — and are both vying for Best Canadian Act against Alessia Cara, Drake, and The Weeknd.
Drake is also nominated for Best Hip Hop.
Other top nominees for the MTV EMAs include Swift (with six), Ed Sheeran and Kendrick Lamar (with four each) and Ariana Grande.
The awards will be handed out on Nov. 12 in London. Click here to see all the nominations.
