Shawn Mendes announced Monday he will make his stadium headlining debut at home in Toronto next year.
The 20-year-old is schedule to play the Rogers Centre on Sept. 6. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning at 10 a.m. local time on Dec. 15. (Various pre-sales begin Dec. 5.)
“It feels like it’s the right time to do it,” Mendes told iHeartRadio. “To play a stadium has been that dream that I’ve had since I was really, really little.
“To have the dream become a reality right now is kind of a surreal feeling.”
The singer previously played the Rogers Centre in October 2015 as opening act for Taylor Swift.
Mendes, who lives just blocks away from the stadium, said the show will “probably be the biggest moment of my career thus far.” He said he’s confident it will be a memorable night.
“When moments mean the world to me and when they mean the world to the fans and they mean the world to the people around me … they usually come out great."
Mendes said there is always a special energy and excitement at concerts in Toronto.
“I hope I can make this show really special,” he said. “Hopefully I can bring out some special guests and just kind of make people really enjoy the night.”

Mendes has a lot to look forward to in 2019.
On Friday, he’ll find out if his self-titled album earned any nominations at the Grammy Awards, which will be handed out Feb. 10 in Los Angeles.
His world tour kicks off March 7 in Amsterdam and keeps Mendes on the road until the end of October. In addition to the just-announced Toronto show, he will play June 14 in Vancouver, June 16 in Edmonton, June 19 in Winnipeg and Aug. 21 in Montreal.
With such a busy year ahead, it’s no wonder Mendes is looking forward to spending the holidays surrounded by loved ones at his family’s home in Pickering, Ont.
“We eat so much food. Like, an unruly amount of food,” Mendes shared. “It’s really just ridiculous how much food is on the table all the time.”
The singer said he’ll be watching movies like 1984's Gremlins (“because it’s in Christmas but it’s a horror movie. It’s like this really awesome mix for me”) and just hanging out with family.
“I love that I’m going to go back to Pickering and just be in a robe all day and never leave my house,” he said. “Maybe step outside for fresh air once.”
