Sinéad O'Connor's cause of death has been revealed as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.
On the one-year anniversary of the Irish singer's death (July 26), her family disclosed the death certificate, which was formally registered by O’Connor’s ex-husband, John Reynolds, on July 24.
The full cause of death listed on the death certificate reads as "“exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection.”
O'Connor passed away unexpectedly in July 2023 at the age of 56. At the time, it was announced that she died from natural causes.
The cause of death disclosure comes just as a wax figure of O'Connor had to be removed from display at the National Wax Museum in Dublin, Ireland.
Despite an attempt to commemorate O'Connor for the one-year anniversary of her passing, the museum received plenty of criticism and outcry from the media and fans after it revealed its figure, which her brother John O'Connor said "looked nothing like her, I thought it was hideous."
'We have listened closely to the reactions and agree that the figure does not fully capture Sinéad's unique presence and essence as we intended," the museum said in a statement. "With this in mind, we are committed to creating a new wax figure that better reflects Sinéad O'Connor's true spirit and iconic image."
