Ronald “Skip” Prokop, vocalist and drummer with Canadian rock band Lighthouse, died Wednesday of congestive heart failure. He was 73.
Prokop (pictured above in the black hat) was part of The Paupers in the mid-60s before forming Lighthouse in 1968 with keyboardist Paul Hoffert.
The band released more than a dozen albums that spawned hits like “One Fine Morning” and “Sunny Days.”
Lighthouse was named Group of the Year at the Juno Awards three years in a row beginning in 1972. They disbanded in 1976 but reunited in 1982 and again in 1992.
Prokop, who played on a recording by Janis Joplin, wrote the Three Dog Night song “I’d Be So Happy.” In his post-Lighthouse years, he played drums for Mercy Train, a Christian band in his native Ontario, and worked for several radio stations.
